On February 24, 1991, FISpT submitted its first application for recognition to the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The complete documentation package was finalized and officially deposited in October 1994.

During the IOC Executive Board meeting held in Atlanta from December 14 to 16, 1994, FISpT received provisional recognition as the international federation representing the Sport for All movement. This decision was formally communicated by IOC President Juan Antonio Samaranch on January 5, 1995, confirming the outcome of the Board’s deliberations.

On January 12, 1995, FISpT President André Van Lierde sent a letter of appreciation to the IOC President, highlighting the valued support of Walter Tröger, President of the IOC Sport for All Commission, who had been strongly committed to developing joint activities with FISpT in the field of Sport for All.

In June 1995, during the 104th IOC Session held in Budapest (June 15–18), FISpT was granted full and definitive recognition by the IOC. This was officially confirmed by a letter dated June 15, 1995, signed by IOC President Juan Antonio Samaranch.
